Hi, I’m Simon Lutrin — a filmmaker, animator, illustrator, and motion designer based in Oakland, CA. I’ve been drawing for as long as I can remember, creating characters and stories before I even knew what storytelling was. That early love of drawing led me to explore comics, animation, visual effects, and film. I’ve worked with brands like Apple TV+, EA Games, and Google to create work that’s both visually dynamic and emotionally resonant. My background spans filmmaking, animation, visual effects, and motion design, and I bring that full toolkit to every project I take on — whether it’s a brand campaign, a short film, or a hand-drawn illustration. Early in my career, I contributed as a VFX compositor on the academy award nominated film, "Beasts of the Southern Wild," a project that taught me the power of bold visual storytelling and collaboration. I also co-created and illustrated the graphic novel "Codename: EDEN" with Ralph Skrzypczak, a sci-fi story about a group of unlikely heroes stranded on a crumbling planet, unraveling the mysteries of their past and the secrets behind a shadowy experiment. I’ve always valued collaboration. The back-and-forth that sharpens ideas and leads to something stronger than what any one person could make alone. I love working with other passionate creatives to figure out what the story really needs, and how to bring it to life in the most compelling way. I hold a BFA in Visual Effects & Animation from the Academy of Art University and an AA in Motion Picture & Television Production. I’m always looking for new ways to tell stories, to connect with people, explore ideas, and make something that lasts. Let’s make something great together.
